guap

Terms

guap is a wallet for holding dollars. You can receive, send and swap them, save them, buy them with naira, and cash them out to a Nigerian bank account. By using any of it you agree to what follows.

In short

  • Your wallet is yours. guap never has your keys and cannot move your money without you.
  • Every fee is shown before you confirm. The one on screen is the one you pay.
  • Buying and cashing out have limits, starting at $100 in 30 days, and go up when you verify your identity.
  • A payout goes to the account number you confirm. Check the name we show you.
  • A transfer that misses its deadline is not lost, but getting it back is manual.

Your wallet is yours

Signing in with Google creates a wallet through Dynamic, our wallet provider. Your money sits at your own address on the blockchain. guap does not hold it, does not have your keys, and cannot move it: every send, swap, deposit or cash out is a transaction you confirm yourself.

Access to the wallet goes through your Google account, so keep that account secure. If you lose access to it, you may lose access to the wallet, and we cannot restore it for you.

Buying and cashing out

Naira payments are made by our payment partners, currently Daya and Minisend. When you buy, you transfer naira to a bank account the partner opens for that one order, and the dollars are sent to your own wallet. When you cash out, your wallet sends dollars to an address the partner opens for that one order, and the naira is paid to the bank account you chose. guap arranges the order and keeps its record; it does not hold the money in between.

Account limits

Buying and cashing out share one limit, counted in US dollars over a rolling window. Sending, receiving, swapping and saving are not limited: they never touch a bank.

LevelWhat it takesLimits
Level 1Signing in$100 in total in any 30 days
Level 2Your BVN and a selfie, checked by our partner$2,000 at a time, $5,000 a day, $20,000 in 30 days
Level 3Full verification of your identityHigher limits, agreed with you

An order that never receives money, or is refunded, stops counting. The app shows what you have left and when more becomes available. One identity can raise the limits of one account only.

Fees

Every fee is shown before you confirm, and the one on screen is the one you pay. At the time of writing they are:

WhatOur fee
Send$0.10, added on top, so the person you pay receives the full amount
Swap$0.10, never more than 0.5% of the amount
Buy with nairaFree
Cash out to a bank0.4% of the amount, at least $0.05 and at most $1.50
Savings10% of what your savings earn, taken when you withdraw. Never on what you put in
The off-ramp pageFree below 6 USDC, then 0.4%, at most $1.50, already inside the rate shown

Our payment partners charge their own fees, which are shown separately before you confirm, as are network fees. We may change our fees; a change never applies to an order already confirmed.

Rates

A naira rate shown before you confirm moves with the market. It is fixed when the order is created, and a countdown starts. If the rate moves before we can fix it, we say so and show you the new one before anything happens.

Buying with naira

You are shown a bank account, an exact amount and a deadline, usually 30 minutes. Send exactly that amount, kobo included, before the deadline, and the dollars are sent to your wallet once the transfer is confirmed. If the purchase fails, the naira is returned. A transfer of a different amount, or one that arrives after the deadline, is not lost, but recovering it is manual and takes time.

Cashing out

Once an order is created you have until the countdown ends to send. If it lapses before your transfer arrives, the order expires and nothing is owed by either side. If your transfer arrives late, or you send twice to the same address, the funds are not lost, but resolving it is manual and takes time. Send us the order reference from your receipt and we will sort it out.

If a bank refuses a payout, the funds are refunded. From your guap wallet on an EVM network that is automatic. From a chain that cannot receive the refund, such as Solana, the funds return to an address guap controls and we send them back to you by hand. We will reach out, but if a payout of yours fails and you have not heard from us, tell us.

The account number decides where money goes

We show the name the bank has on the account number you enter, so check it. Once you confirm, the payout follows the account number. A payout to an account you typed wrongly cannot be reversed by us; recovering it is between you and the receiving bank.

Savings

Savings are deposited into Gauntlet USDC Prime, a lending vault on Base that other people run. Its shares sit at your own address and you can withdraw at any time. What it earns changes every day, the rate shown is a past measurement and not a promise, and a vault can lose value if a loan it made goes bad. Savings are not a bank deposit and are not insured.

Records and statements

We keep a record of every purchase and cash out, with the time of each step, for seven years. You can ask for a statement of any period from one month to one year in the app; it is emailed to the address on your account, up to three times a day.

What you agree to

  • The funds are yours and are not the proceeds of crime.
  • You are not using guap on behalf of someone subject to sanctions.
  • You are old enough to enter a contract where you live.
  • The details you give, including your identity and bank details, are true, and an account you name as yours is yours.
  • You use one guap account for yourself, not accounts to get around a limit.

We may refuse an order, stop a payout we have not yet made, or pause buying and cashing out on an account, where we reasonably suspect fraud or a legal obligation requires it. Pausing never touches your wallet: the money in it stays yours and you can still send it. We may share records with a payment partner, a bank, a regulator or law enforcement where we are required to.

Limits of our responsibility

guap is provided as it is. It depends on other companies for the wallet, naira payments, conversion and savings, and on public blockchains, none of which we control. We are not liable for losses caused by their failure or downtime, by a rate moving, by a savings vault losing value, or by details you entered incorrectly. What we are liable for is capped at the value of the transaction in question.

Changes

We may update these terms. The date at the top says when they last changed. A change never applies to an order you have already confirmed.
